What Is A “Saigon Moment”?

No matter what you think of the Joe Biden administration, it’s undeniable that the media has been relentless and unfair to him after his decision to pull out of Afghanistan. On 8/16/2021, Eric Boehlert of PressRun did a breakdown of how the media has constantly done everything to portray Biden’s withdraw as his unique failure and not the end result of a failed war spanning over four presidents. As Boehlert put it:

Treating the Taliban’s seizure of Afghanistan’s capitol over the weekend as a shocking event in the wake of U.S. troops withdrawing from the war-torn country, the press eagerly jumped into the blame game. In the process, they diligently did the GOP’s bidding by omitting key context in its rush to pin the blame for a 20-year, extraordinarily complex and heartbreaking military and foreign policy failure on a single man who took office just seven months ago.

That same day, NoMoreMisterNiceBlog pointed out a striking similarity in the coverage of Biden’s Afghanistan decision between the suppositive liberal The New York Times and openly Trump-loving Breitbart. And, of course, I broke down an interview Johnathan Karl had with Liz Cheney and one Jake Tapper had with Anthony Blinken to show how the media allows the pro-war side to be dishonest while smearing the anti-war side in whatever ways are possible.
