Marginalized People Are Being Killed In Canada
I thought I had written everything I wanted to about Canada’s inhumane expansion of their MAID program to the poor and mentally ill in yesterday’s article, but it turns out I left a few stones unturned. On 11/13/2022, ShoeonHead posted a video on Twitter from a Canadian news source, talking about a man with chronic back problems who was killing himself because of fear of becoming homeless. Specifically, the disability system in his province of Ontario does not give him the money needed to support himself, and he’s going to lose his home and is unable to find a new one as a result.
At time of writing, the Primer of Ontario is Doug Ford, of the Progressive Conservative Party — and he seems to be far from a friend to the disabled. He previously fought against housing for disabled youth while on the Toronto City Council and has cut funding towards programs which help people with autism, which lead to one hospital having to lay off four hundred different people. Laura Kirby-McIntosh, who worked on the Ontario Autism Program at the time of Ford’s cuts, recounted her experience in a 5/30/2022 op-ed for The Ontario Star with the headline “Doug Ford’s record on autism is abysmal.
