Regarding the claims of the recent Facebook whistleblower has led to a number of disturbing revelations about the website, however, I believe the most damning facts were summed up by the Twitch streamer Vaush on 10/4/2021:

The most concerning revelation from the leaked Facebook documents is that conservative government officials in Europe moved FURTHER right to keep up with the positions Facebook’s algorithm was pushing their constituents towards — WTF

Of course, as a wave of extreme right-wing populism sweeps Europe — especially in countries like Poland, Hungary, and the United Kingdom — it’s important to ask how much of a role Facebook has played in its rise. For that matter, it’s important to ask why a company like Facebook would not only go along with such a rise, but actually accelerate it as they did.

And, as we all know, it’s not only in Europe where Facebook has aligned itself with far-right politics. In the United States, Facebook has also been one of the major factors in the spread of far-right politics taking place over the past couple of years. Such politics, which Facebook only stepped in and regulated after they were forced to, were also one of the major causes of the Storming of the Capitol on 1/6/2021.
