USA Today And Pedophilia

On 1/10/2022, USA Today published an article with the headline “The complicated research behind pedophilia.” The article makes the same argument that has been made time and time again, that pedophilia is actually something people are born with and therefore we should not judge people who desire it as long as they don’t act on it.

Among the people they quote are noted pseudo-scientist James Cantor, whom I have discussed at length in previous articles. As such, I figured it’s only fair that we look at some other people mentioned in this article and see their thoughts on the topic.

Among the people quoted is Michael Seto, who the article says the following about:

Michael Seto, forensic research director at the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group in Canada, said there is more neuroscientific knowledge of pedophilia than ever before. MRI research is showing how sexual interests develop in the brain.

Oh, that’s good, I thought it developed in the foot for a second.

The article goes on to write:

Seto said pedophilia is something people are born with or at least have a predisposition to. Evidence shows men are more likely to have pedophilia than women. This aligns with research showing men are more likely to have other paraphilias, including exhibitionism, voyeurism and sadism. Men are
