During his trip to Hungary last week, Tucker Carlson spent some time on his show Tucker Carlson Tonight (staring Tucker Carlson) doing one of his favorite things, going after the mainstream media.

Specifically, during the 8/3/2021 edition of his show, Carlson talked about how certain mainstream media outlets — most notably The New York Times — took money from the Chinese Communist Party, which is the leading party of the Chinese government. Here’s what Tucker said on this topic:

Since 2016, the Chinese Communist Party paid $20 million to outlets like [The New York Times], The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, and The Washington Post. Twitter which now operates as a publisher also received checks from the Chinese government totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.

For his source, Tucker cites an 8/4/2020 article in The Washington Free Beacon a website paid for by hedge-run manager Paul Singer. It should be noted Tucker is greatly simplifying what happened. In truth — again, according to The Washington Free BeaconThe New York Times had a partnership with the Chinese newspaper China Daily which allowed China Daily to advertise on their website. In mid-2020, The New York Times ended its partnership with all forms of state media, China Daily included.
