Trump’s Early Gaza Rhetoric Is Alarming
So now Donald Trump wants the United States to take ownership over Gaza, as he said in a press conference yesterday with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This is following Trump’s suggestion that those in Gaza simply move to the nations of Egypt and Jordan, a longstanding idea in certain parts of the Zionist right.
Exactly where this is going to go is not really understood at the moment, although the fact that Trump is so willing to engage in this rhetoric should disturb everybody interested in the future of the people who live in Gaza. I am also forced to note that, during the election, the Biden-Harris Administration’s policy on Gaza was discussed endlessly — with Biden even earning the nickname “Genocide Joe” for his willingness to go along with Israel. Of course, with Biden and Harris being forced to deal with downright vile rhetoric being thrown their ways over Israel, it is important to remember that Donald Trump is easily the most unapologetically Zionist President in United States history. It was him who moved the embassy in Israel to Jerusalem, told Israel they could take land in Syria, and spent his final year in office — when a pandemic was raging throughout the nation — working on making sure Israel could have peace in the region.
