There’s Reason To Doubt The New Claim Against Jacob Blake — Many Reasons, In Fact

On Friday, CNBC aired a rally organized by Breonna Taylor’s attorney basically for the purpose of bolstering the Black Lives Matter movement. One of the speakers was Jacob Blake’s father, also named Jacob Blake, which makes writing this article slightly confusing.

Now I’ve always tried to take emotion out of situations like these, but listening to Blake talk about his son was honestly heartwarming. He drove eight hours in order to get to that rally and did so to speak on an issue he believes in, which I just find to be amazing.

Now, a number of smears about Jacob Blake have been debunked. For example, the idea that it was a life or death situation for the cops in question, who could have easily arrested Blake through a variety of ways they just refused to try while they let him walk around his car.

Another claim that has become popular is that he is some kind of rapist. In truth, we’ll almost certainly never know if that’s the case considering he’ll never be given a trial — you know, maybe if the cops arrested him we wouldn’t have this problem. Those using this to justify Jacob Blake getting shot are shooting themselves in the foot, because now the question becomes why the officers didn’t arrest him despite being given a clear chance to do so. As it stands, Blake was merely accused of rape, putting him on the same level as Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

However, on 9/26/2020, Matt Walsh, who also previous trumpeted the claim that Blake was a rapist (and defended Kavanaugh, might I add), said the following on Twitter:

It’s been revealed that the cop shot Jacob Blake because he believed Blake was trying to kidnap his alleged rape victim’s children. He couldn’t allow an armed rapist to drive away in his victim’s car with her kids. The officer is a hero who acted to protect innocent children.

Before we get into what an obvious lie this is, lets start with just how much worse this makes the cop sound. He saw Jacob Blake walk around the car he thought contained children he was trying to kidnap and just let that happen until he entered the car! He had the perfect chance to (I’ll admit, somewhat aggressively) arrest a man he thought was both a rapist and an attempted kidnapper and didn’t do shit!

By the way, that’s not for a cop to decide in the first place. Police are only suppose to use force if a reasonable and imminent threat is being placed on them and their life. Again, if the police believed so strongly that this man is not only a rapist but a kidnapper, he should have arrested Jacob Blake and not just watched him walk around his car!

I’m sorry, I can’t get over this: That’s a fucking defense! Oh, I guess the man wasn’t cold blooded shoot first and ask questions later asshole, but also more of a massive fucking coward than I even thought possible! I mean seriously, if I were that cop I’d honestly be so ashamed of myself I would never utter a word about Jacob Blake again!

Now I could end the article here, however, it seems Walsh (who I don’t hate, by the way. In fact, he’s one of the few men on the modern right I kind of respect.) fell for some misinformation. After the clear re-write of history the Louisville Police Department did with Breonna Taylor, it seems like the Kenosha Police Department also wanted to try their hand at this.

Now lets think about this for a second, Jacob Blake was hot on 8/23/2020. Walsh found this out on 9/26/2020, over a month after Blake was shot.

I don’t know about you, but I were the officer in this situation, I would be screaming this from the rooftops from day one. This shooting caused riots throughout him hometown, caused him to become the most hated man in America, and caused a movement that supports the defunding of his career to gain support. I would be creating new social media accounts, I would be writing op-eds, I’d be putting my side of the story on a T-shirt and wearing it everywhere! Even George Zimmerman, the man who shot Treyvon Martin, started running around telling his constantly changing side of the story from the minute it was picked up by national media.

Well lets read a more full version of this story. Here’s what the ever-mediocre CNN had to say:

Police Officer Rusten Sheskey has told investigators that it wasn’t just his life he was defending when he fired his weapon seven times at Jacob Blake last month in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He said he used deadly force during the chaotic encounter because he was afraid Blake, while attempting to flee the scene, was trying to kidnap a child in the backseat of the vehicle.

Wait, so he waited until an investigation was launched to tell his side of the story? Well that’s kind of odd, seems like something you would be telling people long before an investigation started. In fact, it seems like something you’d start saying around the time the riots you caused start. After all, those were filled with looting, which I have since been informed are when it’s okay to start the shooting.

“He’s got my kid. He’s got my keys,” Sheskey heard a woman say, according to attorney Brendan Matthews, who is representing the officer. If Sheskey had allowed Blake to drive away and something happened to the child “the question would have been ‘why didn’t you do something?’” Matthews said.

Oh I was asking that question long before Blake even had the chance to start driving away. To be honest, I was wondering that when you let this man walk around his car several times — especially considering now you’re pretending you thought this man was a kidnapper.

Also, wait, it was the Attorney saying this? But the article began by saying it was Sheskey who told investigators, not his lawyer! And from this point on, the article only talks about the source being the lawyer with no mention of the officer who actually shot Jacob Blake! Meaning the entire premise of the first paragraph (which I promise you, many of the people who are treating this like evidence of innocent only read) is entirely false! I normally don’t agree with Trump supporters, but they’re right to call these people Fake News CNN.

So who is Brendan Matthews? It turns out, he’s the attorney specifically for the Kenosha Professional Police Association. This means his entire job is to get police officers off the hook from doing bad things, meaning that he is, in no way, anymore reliable than a Press Secretary with some legal training.

Here’s how Kenosha News themselves describe Matthews in their article on this event:

Attorney Brendan Matthews, the lawyer for Sheskey and the Kenosha Professional Police Organization, the union that represents Kenosha police officers, appeared on CNN Friday.

This man gets paid to defend police officers, and his words are now seen as Gospel from the pro-police right. If you trust a single word this man says, you are, to put it nicely, absolutely ridiculous.
