The Troops Protect Our Nation For Once, Controversy Ensues
At this point, you’ve more than likely seen the photos of members of the National Guard in the Senate garage. This has caused national bi-partisan outrage, when everyone from Senator Tammy Duckworth to Rep. Adam Kinzinger showing disgust for this. Sean Hannity went a little farther on the 1/22/2021 edition of his radio show:
Now, interesting side note, I saw [John] Nolte over at Breitbart wrote an article, “The Geneva Conventions expressly forbid forcing prisoners of war from sleeping on concrete or in garages.” Every picture I’ve seen is our National Guard in garages, asleep on concrete floors.
In other words, yes, the ever-weak, frail, cognitively struggling Joe, the commander-in-chief, has already treated his own troops this way — it violates the Geneva Conventions. Wow, I didn’t know that until I read that one.
Of course, Hannity is known for his sensitivity towards those who fight in war. Like when he raised all that money for a veterans charity — most of which went to costs of private jets and guests for other fundraisers.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw called this “ridiculous and disgusting.” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis went so far order all troops from his state return home. He later said the following on Fox And Friends on 1/22/2021:
These folks are soldiers. They are not Nancy Pelosi’s servants. And this is on the back end of them trying to investigate the background of our guardsmen. [In] Florida, we did not let them go into their political beliefs. I thought that was totally inappropriate. I thought it was very disrespectful for people who are clearly patriots. So this is a half cocked mission at this point, and I think the appropriate thing is to bring them home.
Ron DeSantis is the same man who had his police steal the laptop of a doctor who had COVID-19 death data that contradicted his narrative — just figured you guys should know. I should also note that since the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007, the President has been allowed to mobilize the National Guard without the consent of the state government — which means what DeSantis did might have been illegal.
Of course, before you can get outraged at something, you should learn the context of the situation. So why was the National Guard in the garage? Well, maybe Matt Murphy, the National Guard spokesman, can help fill in the blanks:
As Congress is in session and increased foot traffic and business is being conducted, Capitol Police asked the troops to move their rest area. They were temporarily relocated to the Thurgood Marshall Judicial Center garage with heat and restroom facilities.
Oh, so they were being put their so they didn’t get trampled — how is this a controversy? American soldiers are trained in such a way where we can drop them in Serbia with nothing and they are supposed to be able to survive — I think they can tolerate temporarily being in cold garage.
While on this topic, I think it’s a good time to bring up the military presence in D.C. since the 1/6/2021 insurrection. You hear people talking about how there’s more military in D.C. than in the Middle East — which I believe to be a good thing. I’d much rather have our military in D.C. stopping a coup from taking place than out in the Middle East securing opium to be brought over here and used for heroin.
All I’m going to say is that it’s a state of how our military has been used for the past several decades when them actually being used to defend the nation is a scandal. During the first day of his administration, President Biden upped our military presence in Syria — and that didn’t get nearly the same outrage as them being used to prevent a coup from taking place. Because how dare our troops actually protect our nation, I guess, when we all know the real point of it is to protect the economic interest of a failing empire.
