The NBC Guard And The Post Millennial
“BREAKING: Conservatives Shot And Killed By NBC News Affiliate’s Security Guard At ‘Patriot Rally” In Denver” reads a headline from The Post Millennial from 10/10/2020. This article, written by Ian “Libertarians are to blame for pedophilia” Miles “Age of consent is draconian” Chong seems to be ground zero among non-local news for a story that has circulated around the Trump side of the internet over the past couple of days.
For those who don’t know, on 10/9/2020, a “Patriot Rally” occurred which was organized by “hero of Benghazi” John Tiegen. A counter protest of leftists, dubbed a “BLM-Antifa Soup Drive” in mockery of President Trump’s infamous recent comments about soup cans and violence, quickly broke up. Then, despite there being some very fine people on both sides, one person was killed.
I should note, despite the headline of Chong’s article making it clear the guy has connections with NBC (a local NBC affiliate, to be clear), Chong barley brings up the topic. “NBC” is mentioned one time in this article, in its opening paragraph:
A shooting in Denver on Saturday afternoon at a “BLM-Antifa Soup Drive” has left a conservative demonstrator dead, whom police say was shot and killed by a security guard hired by NBC News affiliate 9NEWS.
Why was the security guard present at the rally? Was it to report it for NBC or was he just a counter protester? For that matter, what was the name of the killer in the first place?
The day after Chong’s article, 10/11/2020, The Post Millennial released another article on this topic answering some of the questions above. First off, the man’s named is Matthew Dolloff, and a different report from heavy.com found that he does have left-leaning political views, including frequently sharing memes by Occupy Democrats and regularly ranting against President Trump. It also tells us the name of the person killed, Trump supporter and veteran Lee Keltner.
So was this an act of cold blooded murder by a Democrat who wanted one less living Trump voter come November? Hardly, considering the same article by Chong points out:
The Denver Post initially reported that the right-wing protester allegedly sprayed mace at a Black Lives Matter supporter, who retaliated by fatally shooting him with a handgun. The police arrested two men almost immediately after the shooting occurred, in scenes captured on livestream.
Okay, so Dolloff was clearly acting in self-defense. Mind you, I know people with asthma, and getting mace sprayed at them could easily kill them. At most, you could say Dolloff over-reacted when he killed Keltner, a point I would agree with, but when someone is spraying something as deadly as mace in your face, it’s a little hard to aim your shot.
Later on, Chong says:
Denver Police later tweeted that they determined that the suspect is a “private security guard with no affiliation with Antifa,” but speculation remains about the shooter’s motives.
Um —Ian, I hate to tell you this, but you just said his motive. His motive was the person he shot was spraying him in the face with mace. It was self-defense, albeit probably a bit more than necessary, no different then the men you and The Post Millennial make heroes out of, like Jacob Gardner. Hell, I’d argue what Kyle Rittenhouse, another man made out to be a hero by these guys, was much more morally questionable.
The second article, this time by Celine Ryan, is more about Dolloff’s connections with left-wing groups. However, here’s how the fatal shooting was described:
The man who shot and killed veteran and Trump supporter Lee Keltner at a Denver “Patriot Rally” has been revealed to be a long-time leftist who believes that Trump supporters are racist.
No mention of the fact that Keltner, again, according to The Post Millennial, was spraying mace in the face of the man who shot him.
This has become a consistent theme among conservatives, when you can’t defend the person, bring up something completely unrelated. The Ferguson Police Department infamously released video of Michael Brown robbing a convenience store at the same time they released video of Brown being shot. Since then, we’ve learned George Floyd was on drugs and robbed a pregnant woman once, Ahmaud Arbery brought a gun to a basketball game once, Jacob Blake was accused of rape (odd how people who are accused of rape and then fired or attacked on Twitter without due process are victims of cancel culture but a man who’s shot in the back seven times and paralyzed from the waste down deserved it because of a mere accusation), Breonna Taylor’s ex-boyfriend is a drug dealer, Kyle Rittenhouse cleaned up some graffiti, and one of the guys he shot was a pedophile or something. If you’re wondering what this has to do with the actions that outraged people — I have no idea, go ask Fox News.
Mind you, this isn’t about claims that are actually relevant to what the officer did, like when the police officer who shot Jacob Blake said he thought Blake was going to kidnap the children in the van (which was bullshit, both in regards to that not being the case and the officer not believing that) or — whatever the new argument against Breonna Taylor is, these are claims about character. However, character has nothing to do with rather a person acted in legal self-defense or deserves to be shot. Even if a fight broke out between Hitler and Martin Luther King Jr. the question is still “who started the fight?” and not “who is the better person?”
Matthew Dolloff did nothing wrong, is the short way of saying this.
