The Issue Isn’t That Trump Gaffes, It’s That He’s Arrogant

Former President Donald Trump said something stupid, which he tends to do quite a bit. This time, while rallying in Greenwood, Nebraska, Donald Trump reiterated his support for “JD Mandel,” in the Ohio Senate race.

Of course, nobody named JD Mandel is running, the main two candidates are JD Vance and Josh Mandel. Trump has previously endorsed JD Vance, the author of Hillbilly Elegy, but this whole situation is just confusing. Mike Gibbons, another person running for the Senate seat, told the following joke in an email to his donors:

To be fair, you really can’t blame Trump. No one knows who the real JD Vance is, as his views change faster than the weather in Ohio.

Mind you, Donald Trump making a small verbal mistake while being in front of the media as often as he is without any kind of script is not a big deal — politicians make small mistakes like that all the time. I’m sure if you were to listen to anyone — myself included — speak extemporaneously for as much time as Donald Trump has, you’ll find them saying something about that level of silly. However, the issue is not that Donald Trump misspeaks, it’s that he’s so arrogant when he does.
