The ISIS Kabul Bombing: The Crisis That Wasn’t

If you’ve been watching the news at all since 8/26/2021, you’ve likely heard of the bombing of an airport in Kabul, Afghanistan done by ISIS in which 182 people — thirteen of them members of the United States military — died. The event was tragic, and the Biden Administration treated it as such. The next day, the Biden Administration engaged in a drone strike against a high-profile member of ISIS-KP, with another one following two days later.

The event was also a massive surprise, Donald Trump and Mike Pence constantly claimed to have defeated ISIS while they were in the White House including while ISIS attacks were surging all across the Middle East. For that matter, ISIS never had a large presence in Afghanistan because of opposition from the Taliban who view ISIS as barley different from the kind of imperialism they oppose. The whole event appears to be something nobody expected, no different than when similar attacks by terrorists happened under the last four Republican Presidents. I mentioned this because, in a tape aired on Hannity on 8/26/2021, former President Donald Trump said the following:

This tragedy should never have taken place. It should never have happened and it would not have happened if I were your president.
