The Build A JFK Workshop

5 min readMar 20, 2025

With the recent releasing of thousands of previously classified JFK documents, it seems like now is a good time to discuss how the American public looks at its 35th President. Of the four Presidents who were killed in office — Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, and Kennedy — the last one is easily the most talked about and the example which has greatest captured the imagination of the American people. The fact that his murder has been so shrouded in mystery also means many people can essentially believe that Kennedy would have done whatever they thought would be best for the country, regardless of his actual position, if he had only been able to finish his term as President.

The phenomenon of fake JFK quotes proves to serve as a good case study in what I’m talking about, given many of them pander heavily to this notion. One popular example, which first gained traction in the twenty-first century and proports to be a statement Kennedy made only a week before his assassination, says the following:

There’s a plot in this country to enslave every man, woman, and child. Before I leave this high and noble office, I intend to expose this plot.

Narratively, this quote shows Kennedy putting the — to use modern language — deep state on notice, only for them to respond by killing him. Mind you, if one buys into the notion of a “deep state” existing, it is impossible…
