The Anti-Cancel Culture Perpetual Present
Elon’s DOGE team has garnered some controversy early on, as seen my the people he has hired. One of the people Musk hired, a fellow by the name of Marko Elez, has gotten much media attention for his past — specifically his history of making rather bigoted comments. Of specific note are his avocation for eugenics, him saying you couldn’t pay him to marry outside his race, and him saying we should “Normalize Indian Hate,” the last two of these happening in September 2024.
A reasonable discussion can be had regarding what the long term consequences of behaviors like this should be — or even if doing such a thing is worthwhile (personally, I have never advocated for bad opinions to be a life changing experience assuming the person admits their error) — but it is also worth taking about how those on the right- have defended Elez. For the record, Elez never got fired— he resigned on his own after this information became public before getting rehired by Musk shortly afterwards. It is similarly worth remembering that we are not talking about some typical employee, nor even a low level government employee, but a person who the President has attempted to give administrator-level access to critical payment systems in the Department of Treasury.
