This article is dedicated to Townhall columnist Derek Hunter because of his 5/8/2022 article “Democrats Are Desperate for a Distraction.” In it, Derek calls the linear progression of time a conspiracy by liberal Democrats to distract from the issues — or something.

You probably think I’m joking, here is him saying basically that:

Honestly, did you care about Ukraine before the invasion? Do you care about Ukraine now? Your first answer is probably no, but it’s likely yes now. Why? Aside from human decency and not wanting to see people killed, you’ve been convinced that Ukraine matters to your daily life.

First off, I care about the right of all nations to govern themselves. I also care about the rise of imperialist powers and what that could mean for both the United States and the world. As such, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine does involve many things I do care about — even if Ukraine specifically is not something I normally think about.

But Derek is right, my thoughts related to Ukraine have significantly gone up since Putin invaded it. I am not sure what that proves other than the fact that I am able to think about multiple things, including things I would not normally think about, when the situation calls for it.
