So — Let’s Talk About Guns And Attempts To Control Them
Questions still remain unanswered about the 2/24/2022 Robb Elementary School shooting that took place in Uvalde, Texas. The biggest question Americans are asking right now is if their was some way this shooting could have been prevented — a question we are not allowed to ask because that would be politicizing a tragedy.
In the past, I have made it very clear that the biggest disagreement I have with the Democratic Party is on the issue of guns. My opinion has always been this: I am not against gun control on principal, I do believe that the second amendment applies to citizens, but that does not mean I believe we are constitutionally required to have no regulation in the field of guns. Congress has banned both fully automatic weapons (Firearm Owners Protection Act) and nobody has argued that doing so was unconstitutional. However, what I am skeptical of is the notion that any of the gun control measures proposed by the Democrats would have any impact on the problem with gun violence this country faces.
The last time the United States had any chance of passing some form of comprehensive gun control was after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that occurred in Newtown, Connecticut on 12/14/2012.
