So — Let’s Talk About Colorado Springs

The thing that inspired me to write about the shooting at Club Q which occurred on 11/19 and 11/20/2022 was not the event itself — honestly, I didn’t have much to say about such a brazen act of terrorism against the LGBT community other then it being a terrible crime perpetuated by bigotry — but the reaction of right-wing commentators in response to the event. You see, if you point out that the inflammatory rhetoric conservatives have pushed against LGBT people might have had an effect on this event occurring, you’re not only the bad guy, but are trying to blackmail them into being okay with things that are bad. Pedro L. Gonzalez even called those who believe in cause and effect evil on Twitter the same day as the shooting:

Watching leftists use Colorado to argue that we must give groomers access to our kids and we must allow them to be castrated just makes me double down on the issue — and it should make you do the same. These people have no moral ground to stand on. They are fundamentally evil.

Mind you, I’m not saying it’s the fault of right-wing liars who promote bigotry — including the idea people want to “give groomers access to our kids” — that this event happened, but I am going to say the rhetoric that caused this shooting is the same rhetoric the right-wing has been perpetuating.
