Should Putin Be Allowed To Have An Empire? Rand Paul Thinks So.

Yesterday, Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky said the following regarding the recent situation between Russia and Ukraine while talking to Secretary of State Anthony Blinken:

You could also argue the countries [Russia has] attacked were part of Russia — part of the Soviet Union.

Paul also talked about how the possibility of Ukraine becoming a member of NATO could have triggered Putin’s invasion — despite the fact he admits the United States has been talking about allowing Ukraine into NATO since 2008 and that it’s unlikely that Ukraine will ever become part of NATO due to opposition from certain European countries. Paul basically gave all of the reasons why the idea that Putin only did this because of NATO expansion is utterly nonsensical, and still decided to argue that was the cause.

Paul shot back with the above quote in response to Blinken pointing out that Russia has never invaded a NATO country — because Russia has no interest in a war with NATO. Paul continued to double down on this point, arguing that both Georgia and Ukraine were members of the Soviet Union as far back as its creation in 1922.

It should be noted that Rand Paul is the son of former Republican congressman Ron Paul, who believed that Lincoln was wrong to not allow states to succeed…
