Republicans, Trump, And Innocence

During the Mueller testimony, one point I made is that Republicans were simply shaming Mueller for investigating in the first place. I’ve noticed this is basically the same attitude they seem to have for the investigation regarding Ukraine.

After Hunter Biden resigned from that Ukraine company, many Republican commentators saw this as proof he was guilty. What that meant for Jeff Sessions, John Bolton, Scott Pruitt, Steve Bannon, and many others (including possibly Rick Perry) is still up in the air.

But these aren’t the only arguments being made. Take Senator Lindsey Graham (who recently did a media tour because he “broke with Trump,” over something Trump was right on) who recently threatened to reveal the name of the whistle blower if Trump gets impeached.

However, that is horribly illegal. Under federal law, whistle blowers (even ones Republicans don’t like) get protections, including the right to anonymity.

However, even giving Graham the benefit that what he’s doing is legal (it isn’t), he still could not follow through on this threat. The only group that could get the name of the whistle blower in the Senate would be the intelligence committee. Graham does not sit on this committee, and while I tend to not doubt Republican loyalty, I’m not so certain Richard Burr, the chairman of the committee, would be all that keen on this kind of leak. The only people who could give Graham that information who would also do so willingly are Rubio and Cotton, and both are from swing states where Trump is not all that popular.

Graham just doesn’t want an investigation. However, he is not even the worst. That would be Rep. Liz Cheney from Wyoming, the daughter of former vice-president Dick Cheney.

According to her, this impeachment inquiry is the reason Turkey invaded Northern Syria.

“It was not an accident that the Turks chose this moment to roll across the border,” Cheney said while on Fox And Friends. “And I think the Democrats have got to pay very careful attention to the damage that they’re doing with impeachment proceedings.”

Call me a simple person, but I blame Turkey invading Northern Syria on the United States removing troops from Northern Syria. I know for a fact Liz Cheney knows this, because she has been one of the most vocal critics of Trump administration removing troops from Syria.

However, it seems like she is pretending such an event did not happen, or even ignoring it was Trump who pulled of Syria. It seems like she is no longer even aware such a pull out happened just so long as she can blame anyone other than Trump.

What do both Graham and Cheney have in common? They were praised by the media earlier this month as Republicans who broke with Trump.

At this point, a Republican is only breaking with Trump for political reasons. They will go back to the President the second it actually matters, this is wartime for them.
