Republican Scapegoats

There may have been genuine advantages to soft-pedaling differences between conservatives and liberals until the 1980s, when all the strength that could be mustered had to be directed toward defeating Communism abroad and socialism at home. But we are no longer living in the 1980s. Those battles were won, and today we face new dangers. — Yoram Hazony and Ofir Haivry

I would like to open by saying that I am currently running a victory lap. The same people who promised me that communism was no longer a threat seem to have changed their minds — because a crazy President told them so, but that’s besides the point.

The above blurb was recently shared by Daily Wire host Michael Knowles on Twitter. Both Knowles and Hazony have said very little regarding the current threat China poses to the United States, although Josh Hammer — who is friends the above mentioned two as well as social conservative hero Sohrab Ahmari — has talked nonstop about it. Although I’ll get into that a little later.

Of course, this is only one end of the current political spectrum. The other end, the blame China end, is being carried out by President Trump and his good friend Senator Josh Hawley. Today, Senator Hawley tweeted the following:

Today I will introduce a resolution calling for full investigation of #China Communist Party’s lies & actions that killed thousands of their own people & turned #CoronavirusOutbreak #COVID19 into a global pandemic

The cost of Beijing’s criminal conduct should be assessed and they should pay damages to USA and the world

I should note I have no idea what this COVID 19 thing Senator Hawley is talking about is, but whatever it is it can’t be nearly as scary as the Chinese virus.

In all seriousness, if Hawley wants to blame Xi Jinping and his group of commie cronies, one can hardly blame him. However, it is also impossible to not see as an attempt to remove all responsibility from his President. Hey, here are some quotes from another liar that maybe the Senate should consider investigating:

No, the Coronavirus won’t become a pandemic. Not at all. — 1/22/2020

The Democrats are politicizing the Coronavirus. This is their new hoax. — 2/20/2020

You have 15 people with Coronavirus, and the 15 within a couple of day is going to be down to close to zero. That’s a pretty good job we’ve done. — 2/26/2020

All of these quotes came from the President.

Hawley’s legislation has so far gained the support of one House Republican, Rep. Stefanik (R-NY). According to 538, she has voted with the President 78% of the time. Stefanik, like Hawley, has been a long time critic of China. Her website says the following:

Current threats include nuclear-armed North Korea and Iran, geo-politically assertive China and an aggressive and expansionist Russia. Terrorism continues to pose a risk to the United States and our place in the world. It is critical that we protect our nation, strengthen our relationships with allies and work with our regional partners to confront our adversaries before they can threaten our homeland.

Despite this, in her five years in congress she has not introduced a single piece of legislation combating China. She has, however, co-sponsored two separate pieces of legislation fighting against BDS — the real issue.

To put it simply, this war against China is a scam. The end goal is to give America another enemy to distract us from the real issue — that being the President of the United States.
