Remain Vigilant

As my readers know, I supported Biden in hopes he would do two things:
- End Trump’s protectionism and his trade war with China
- Stop the war on the internet being pushed by Trump and his wing of the Republican Party
The more the Republican Party attacked Joe Biden, the more they denied he won, the more they called him “China Joe” and said he was the candidate of Big Tech — the more I loved him. Biden basically entered the race being seen as a non-serious candidate, and every single attempt to deny him a victory, no matter how obvious it became, made me more and more excited to see him in the White House.
When I publish this, Biden will be only a few hours away from taking the White House. It will be easy for those who fought against Trump to say that this is the end to all our problems. While the insurrection on 1/6/2021 has woken up a large number of people, I do fear that enough people will go back to sleep for the deep state that controlled Trump to be able to regain control.
The Deep State has members within the Democratic Party. Senator Amy Klobuchar has joined in on the anti-tech nonsense, saying the following according to The Washington Times:
I have long said that it’s vitally important to hold tech companies accountable for issues relating to competition, consumer privacy and the spread of harmful disinformation on their platforms.
Klobuchar is going to release a book later this year on the topic of anti-trust — I wonder if it will be next to Josh Hawley’s new book at Barnes And Noble. Truth be told, one of the reasons I backed Democrats was because I saw the Republicans were jumping on the “break up big tech” bandwagon. But it seems like some Democrats are trying to adopt the horribly unpopular policy of the populist Republicans, in spite of the fact that defending the internet would make them historically popular.
Meanwhile, 1/19/2020 saw former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster writing an op-ed for The Washington Post titled “Biden Would Do The World A Favor By Keeping Trump’s China Policy.” Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell is saying “The Trump administration failed to be as aggressive on sanctions,” or basically that Trump wasn’t hawkish enough on countries like China. Once again, Trump’s trade war is horribly unpopular, but that won’t stop the Democrats from adopting the policies everyone hated so much to vote for Democrats in the first place.
On the other end, one cannot just pretend that the Republicans who backed Trump are no longer in office. Even in spite of the handful of Republicans who have played minor resistance to Trump, it’s worth noting that basically every Republican in Congress has voted with him the vast majority of the time. Many of the most Trump-Republicans (especially Matt Gaetz, Ron DeSantis, and Josh Hawley) are clearly planning to run for President themselves in 2024.
During the insurrection, one rioter went so far as to say he was doing this for Republican Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley. The Wyoming GOP is now trying to oust Liz Cheney, the third in command for the House Republican Party, because she voted to impeach Donald Trump. New Republican Representatives are running on platforms that endorse QAnon — most infamously Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia. A large amount of the Republican Party believes the son of the new President is a child molester who left all this evidence in a laptop in a repair shop — these people will not go away just because Biden was inaugurated.
Progressives should be all too familiar with this, as many of them checked out on 1/20/2009 when Barack Obama was inaugurated. As a result, the Democrats took gave the RNC one compromise after another, and the Republicans got more extreme, eventually ending with the Tea Party movement and the giving of Congress to John Boehner and Mitch McConnell.
To put it simply, we cannot allow a new Tea Party to form in the United States that backs the ideas of QAnon, we have to remain on edge, and remain vigilant, if we do not want Donald Trump to happen again. After George W. Bush left office, many assumed we could never live under an administration even close to that again — the last four years have proven that we can, and that we might, but we should make sure it does not happen without a fight.
