Objectively Bad People: Coronavirus Edition

What makes someone a bad person? According to most, a good sign is when they take a horrible event — say a pandemic — and politicize it for there own benefit.

Of course, we tend to allow this when our side does it. After Parkland, gun control advocates — even ones who survived the shooting — were accused of “politicizing a tragedy.” Yet, what were they suppose to do? Sure, I disagree with gun control advocates, but the only way we are going to fine a solution is debating politics. Even the counter solution of letting teachers carry guns involved politicizing a tragedy, as they were trying to change laws after a horrible event — just like David Hogg.

Of course, the right has no business criticizing the left for this. Remember Mollie Tibbetts? And how various Republican politicians (including the President) always make sure to be around Angle Moms whenever they talk about immigration. How about everything from the Bush Administration post 9/11? That tragedy sure was politicized.

What does it mean to politicize something? To make something political? Okay, well what does that mean?

Of course, it is usually very obvious. Democrats are trying to push a bill through Congress that they claim is a response to the Conoravirus. In truth, it has many provisions that are not related, including some that would allow tax payer funded abortion.

However, what if it’s more subtle? In fact, what if the person is not a legislator but a columnist, or even a guy on Twitter.

Well maybe Townhall columnist Loyd Pettegrew can help answer that question. Just today, an article on his was published onto that website called “A Hidden Benefit Of The COVID-19 Virus Can Be Seen In America’s Classrooms.” Basically, he’s happy schools are closed because his teacher gave him homework once or something.

Since many professors still deliver their classes face-to-face, this mandate forces them to reformat their instruction into a more nuanced and less spontaneous style. Being able to use the most recent progressive proclamations from MSNBC, CNN, the Washington Post or New York Times will no longer be doable. There is already much pushback from the professorate because they are being forced to reformat their courses. Their yellowed lecture notes will have to be converted to online learning systems like Blackboard, Canvas, etc. Online lectures and projects must be developed and recorded in advance, and making changes is both difficult and time-consuming. This fact leaves little opportunity for liberal professors to inculcate students with more fake news and ideology.

His article seems to operate under the assumption that conservative parents — who I guess he thinks are always paying for college when loans are the more likely methods — just don’t know what’s going on at campuses. And if that’s true, it would be quite odd considering talk of left-wing bias in academia has been talked about non-stop by conservatives at least since the publishing of God And Man At Yale by William Buckley in 1951! Hell, one of the ways Ben Shapiro got popular was through his 2004 on this topic, called Brainwashed. And isn’t this what Charlie Kirk has been screaming about non-stop for years on end?

Both students and parents know what they’re getting into, Loyd is just happy people who disagree with him politically are getting disadvantaged for a brief moment.

I know what you’re thinking, does that make him a bad person? An asshole, sure. But a bad person?

And my answer is no, he’s just an asshole. Pat Buchanan however makes sure to take it one step further. Just look at his recent column “Will The Coronavirus Kill The New World Order?”:

It may one day be said that the coronavirus delivered the deathblow to the New World Order, to a half-century of globalization, and to the era of interdependence of the world’s great nations.

Tourism, air travel, vacation cruises, international gatherings and festivals are already shutting down. Travel bans between countries and continents are being imposed. Conventions, concerts and sporting events are being canceled. Will the Tokyo Olympics go forward? If they do, will all the anticipated visitors from abroad come to Japan to enjoy the games?

I was unaware Buchanan was against air travel and international vacations, but okay.

In retrospect, was it wise to have relied on China to produce essential parts for the supply chains of goods vital to our national security? Does it appear wise to have moved the production of pharmaceuticals and lifesaving drugs for heart disease, strokes and diabetes to China? Does it appear wise to have allowed China to develop a virtual monopoly on rare earth minerals crucial to the development of weapons for our defense?

Does Buchanan not know stores sterilize products before they’re put on a store shelf? I guess not, instead he operates under the logic of Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle where people who make sausage open a days work by pushing all the rat shit to the floor.

And yes, it makes perfect sense to have medicine be handled primarily by the people who need it the most. That will cause them to be the first to wish to make better medicine as they will be affected by illness first. It’s this thing called supply and demand, and I’d recommend Buchanan look into it.

I should also note that Buchanan has been looking for an excuse to back isolationism since at least his 1992 Presidential Run. (Hence why I talk about him so much in my book regarding the rise of Trump style nationalism.) But God forbid a kid who was shot at asks for gun control.

However, the award for the worst person goes to a fellow named Carnivore Aurelius — who those of you who read my Liberty Hawk articles should be familiar with. On 2/26/2020, he tweeted the following:

Hot take.

If coronavirus disrupts supply chains and leads to food shortages, it’ll be good for people’s health.

It’ll finally force them to fast instead of eating 6 garbage meals a day.

This “6 meals a day” point is one he makes regularly, and it has always been utter nonsense. The only people who are recommended to eat more than three meals a day are diabetics, who are suppose to eat between 4 and 6 small meals a day depending on the patient.

Also, fasting doesn’t actually work — hence why he has to sell it as some kind of “fuck you to society” and not just a diet. It is actually quite dangerous for women as it can interrupt hormonal production and, if done wrong, can cause your body to more or less enter starvation mode which will make it easier for you to gain weight.

Basically, this man hopes our food supply gets wiped out so they can be forced to follow your nonsense diet is evil, plain and simple.
