On 9/14/2021, a woman going by “Tiger Lily” on Twitter posted a tweet saying the following:

Hello, maybe we get flight attendant fired from @AmericanAir today? My sweet friend’s 2 year old son was having an asthma attack and wouldn’t keep mask on (because he couldn’t breathe) — and they turned plane around and had police waiting to escort them off. A 2 year old.

It was shortly picked up by the right-wing website National File, who covered the story that same day:

Amanda Pendarvis, her two-year-old son Waylon, and her mother, were allegedly kicked off AA Flight 1284 on Monday, because Waylon, who has asthma, was having an attack and could not maintain the mask on his face properly as a result.

Of course, the question of why a parent would bring a two-year-old with asthma on a flight where masks are required (let alone why a two-year-old needed to go on a flight in the first place — did he have a very important business meeting to attend?) was never raised by the media, who quickly dubbed these people heroes of the anti-mask movement. However, what I see in the video is not a hero standing up to authority, but a coward who couldn’t even be bothered to engage in civil disobedience herself, instead all but forcing her young son to do it.
