No, I Don’t Believe Tara Reade

At this point, you more than likely heard about how the media isn’t covering Tara Reade. You may not know who Tara Reade is, or why we should talk about her, but you heard that she’s someone the media isn’t talking about.

For those who don’t know, she’s a former staffer of Former Vice President Biden who claims that she was sexually assaulted by him in 1993. Here is what she said in an interview with Democracy Now on 3/31/2020:

I was approached by my supervisor. She handed me a gym bag and said, “Hurry, Joe wants this, so get it to him. He’ll meet you down towards the Capitol.” And I went down the stairs, and I don’t remember exactly where I was, because there’s connections between the Russell Building and all of that and the corridors, but we were in a semi-private location. It wasn’t a room. It wasn’t, you know, the Russell Office Building — I mean, in his office. It was down in the corridors. And I handed him the gym bag.

And then he — it was one, as I described, fluid moment. He was talking to me, and he said some things that I don’t recall. And I was up against the wall. And he — I remember the coldness of the wall. And I remember his hands underneath my blouse and underneath my skirt, and his fingers penetrating me as he was trying to kiss me and I was pulling away. And he pulled back, and he said, “Come on, man. I heard you liked me.” But he was angry. It was like a tight voice. And he tended to smile when he was angry. And he isn’t like the Uncle Joe like everybody talks about now. He was younger. He was my dad’s age at that time and very strong. And he looked insulted and angry. And I remember feeling like I had done something wrong when he said that statement. And then I was standing there when he said — he was still near me. He said — pointed his finger and said, “You’re nothing to me. You’re nothing.” And he walked away.

However, I should note that while she’s currently calling this “sexual assault,” that wasn’t always the case. Back in 2019, she started telling her story shorting before Biden launched his Presidential Campaign. Here is what she told The Union in March of last year:

Reade said Biden’s senior staff protected the senator. She was considered a distraction. Reade said she didn’t consider the acts toward her sexualization. She instead compared her experience to being a lamp.

In that same article, she claims the reason she left Washington was because of this incident:

Then, I went to Senate personnel for help. No one helped me. I resigned or I would say, I was forced to resign. I was told to look for another job. In the aftermath, I did not feel competent or worthy of anything. My self-esteem plummeted and my career nose-dived. What started with promise and possibility, ended because some prominent Senator decided that he liked my legs. I was sad and lost and moved on.

In a Medium article, she said she was unsure if Joe Biden knew why she quit for working for him — that being the whole sexual assault thing:

I wish I could say there was a happy ending, that Senator Biden apologized or that he helped make amends, he did not. I do not even know if he realized why I left.

Despite her saying in March 2020 that Biden fired her (Note: the ellipse are from her original tweet, I’m not cutting anything out.):

And this . . . who harassed and more then fired his Senate aide when she had the audacity to say no and call him on it, me . . . that would be Joe Biden.

And despite her saying in December of 2018 that the reason she left Washington was because she was against US imperialism:

When I was in my early twenties and just out of college, I began my journey into politics. I left that political work behind a few years ago. I resigned my position and took myself out of the Washing DC beltway. Why? First, I started as an actor in classical theater, an artist and writer before Washington DC. Second, I saw the reckless imperialism of America and the pain it caused through out the world. Third, I love Russia with all my heart. I love the people, the history, the culture and even my attempts to learn the language. I could not stand to watch the deception and xenophobia that came from my own American government. It is so sad and destructive to revile another culture or country for no reason but economic gain.

And despite her saying in 2009 that the reason she left was because her husband got a job managing a congressional campaign in the Midwest:

Soon I received an offer to work on a Governor’s race in California and I almost accepted. Tate kept me up that night, pleading with me to go with him while he managed the Congressman’s campaign. I agreed and we moved to the frozen tundra of the Midwest. I would not even last a full winter.

I’m sorry, but this story just has too many holes for me to buy into it. This woman has changed her narrative so many times that the idea she’s telling the truth this time is laughable.

Even Alyssa Milano, the actress who started the MeToo movement, called this out for what it was:

There is something to the idea that people are going to weaponize #metoo for political gain. Just look at the replies here and look to see who those accounts are supporting in the primary. There always needs to be a thorough vetting of accusations.

But saying this is politically motivated is a “smear job,” according to some woman on Twitter named Rose McGowan:

You are a fraud. This is about holding the media accountable. You go after Trump & Kavanaugh saying Believe Victims, you are a lie. You have always been a lie. The corrupt DNC is in on the smear job of Tara Reade, so are you. SHAME

I know, how dare someone learn from past experiences.

To put it simply, I have no reason to believe this at the time. While many are comparing these accusations to the ones Ford had against Kavanaugh, Ford had records of telling people about the incident going back at least until 2004. However, we have no records of Tara saying anything about Biden in this light until last year!

Overall, I find this accusation to be nonsensical.
