My Issue With Anti-Voting Leftism
There’s a popular Tweet from a Twitter user with the handle @LinkofSunshine that says the following while quote tweeting an anti-voting meme:
This tweet has made the rounds due to its mocking of leftists who are against engaging in electoral politics, pointing out how they can never actually put the plans they promise are more effective than voting into action. Outside of a vague notion of revolution, these leftists are have failed to explain how to actually achieve their political goals without needing to cast a vote — and one is also forced to wonder why, if they have thought up some amazing plan to end capitalism, they haven’t already done such.
It should also be noted that firebombing a Walmart, the hypothetical replacement for electoral politics in the tweet above, also is not a very effective strategy. Although violence can be overlooked both at the time and through the lens of history if you have a righteous or popular cause, the immediate result of doing such is going to be little more than making those around you rather upset with your decision.
