Michael Tracey And His Dishonest Defense Of Paul Hodgkins
There’s this article Sohrab Ahamri published in Unherd — a right-wing website I had never heard of until I found this article — on 7/16/2021 titled “President Kamala would destroy America,” that, despite being out for only a week, I’ve gone back to many times because it’s so fascinating. In this article, Sohrab mostly tells the story of a hypothetical President Kamala Harris being unable to deal with the threat posed by a radical environmentalist group who wants every developed country to shut off their power grid or else go extinct. The United States is unable to deal with this threat because of “wokeness” or something. Other countries are unable to help the United States because they hate the United States because of “wokeness.” Basically, the United States is going to end up as a third-world country all because of Critical Race Theory.
The whole article is actually really interesting — not because it’s good or makes anything close to a reasonable point, it’s barely better than the deranged racism of Frank Miller. Instead, it’s interesting because of the fact that so many people actually see this as a plausible situation. Ahmari is the democratically elected leader of reactionaries, remember — so someone somewhere must think he’s not insane.
Truth be told, the only reason why anyone thinks this nonsense makes any sense is because so many people have dedicated themselves to presenting this dystopian view of America while appearing like nothing more than reasonable centrists. I’ve already talked about much of the fear-mongering around Joe Biden’s fight against domestic terrorists — all because they tried to overthrow the United States government and deny him his rightful victory — but it seems like I haven’t even scratched the surface of bullshit the blogosphere can give you with a simple Google search.
Enter Michael Tracey, one of the chief liars against Joe Biden. In order to show just how this kind of propaganda works, it’s only fair we look at one of his articles.
