John Money, Reduxx, Good Ideas, And Bad People

On 1/24/2022, Anna Slatz for the anti-transgender website Reduxx posted an article titled “John Money: The Pro-Pedophile Pervert Who Invented ‘Gender’”. Slatz has previously written for The Post Millennial and 4W, both of which are also anti-transgender (although Post Millennial is explicitly right-wing while both Reduxx and 4W are TERF websites).

The article reads like a typical attack on John Money, starting off by talking about his opinions on pedophilia, noting:

Like many sexologists, Money believed pedophilia was a harmless sexuality which, when practiced “properly,” led to the child suffering no harm. In fact, Money’s theories on pedophilia were so sympathetic that, to this day, his work is prominently featured on the website of the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) — one of the longest-established pederast rights groups.

First off, the phrase “like many sexologists,” is doing quite a bit of legwork. Regular readers of my blog will likely know the biggest pedophilia apologist in the world of psychology is James Cantor, who is not only highly anti-transgender in his rhetoric, but is also good friends with Ray Blanchard (the man behind the highly transphobic concept of autogynophilia) and taught Debra Soh (the author of The End of Gender).

In case you are curious, Reduxx does mention Cantor in their article “USA Today Cites Prostasia Figure for Pedophilia Article,” but his transphobic opinions are never once brought up. Blanchard is also never mentioned by name on their website, but a 1/15/2022 article titled “Norwegian University Required Students to Attend Fetish Club, Dress in ‘Rubber’” does make mention of autogynophilia, where it’s briefly mentioned that some of the people mentioned in the article wrote a paper on the topic.

But yes, NAMBLA does quote John Money on their website, they also have a very positive review of the movie Stand By Me — based on the Stephen King novella The Body. Their review begins by saying:

Intentionally or unintentionally, every so often Hollywood comes up with a movie about a man/boy type relationship. A Thousand Clowns was one such film. E.T. was another. The latest film in this category is the new Rob Reiner film, Stand By Me.
