Hey McCarthy, They’re Coming For You Too

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye Liz Cheney — Rep. Madison Cawthorn, 5/12/2021

Yesterday, House Republican Chair Liz Cheney was officially voted out of her leadership position in the Republican Party. This is in spite of the fact that they already tried to oust her once, and they failed. Apparently, they are allowed to just try again — and we know if this failed they would have likely tried again and again and as many times as it would take for her to be ousted. (One must admire the dedication to the “child throwing a temper tantrum” tone Republicans insist on having.)

The major difference between this time and last time was now they had House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy on board. McCarthy changed his mind on Cheney for one reason and one reason only, because Donald Trump told him to. As Trump put from his desk on 5/5/2021:

Liz Cheney is a warmongering fool who has no business in Republican Party Leadership. We want leaders who believe in the Make America Great Again movement, and prioritize the values of America First. Elise Stefanik is a far superior choice, and she has my COMPLETE and TOTAL endorsement for GOP Conference Chair. Elise is a tough and smart communicator!

And after Trump made that blog post, McCarthy fell in line. McCarthy is a spineless weasel of a human being who will go along with whatever Donald Trump tells him too, so it makes perfect sense he’d turn on Liz Cheney, despite the fact that, even though I don’t agree with Cheney’s principals, anyone can see she at least has them — Donald Trump and Kevin McCarthy do not.

I’ll tell you right now that I do not think Liz Cheney is some kind of “savior of democracy” like she’s being painted by the media. Her dad stole two Presidential Elections so he could be Vice-President — and one of the evilest Vice-Presidents in United States history at that. I have no plans of holding hands with her because, to put it simply, I remember everything she and her dad did. Of all people, Sean Hannity put it best on Twitter on 5/12/2021:

@RepLizCheney hope your enjoying being embraced & praised by Dems and media mob, the same people that called your dad a “War Criminal”, convicted Scooter Libby & tried to destroy your father over his work w/ Halliburton. Counting the days until your new friends return to normal.

Of course, the major thing that separates me from Hannity is that I believe every single one of those things were justified — but that’s beside the point. Cheney is no different than the rest of them, she even voted with Donald Trump 93% of the time, and now all of a sudden we’re supposed to call her the Republican Trotsky to McCarthy’s Stalin because she said something obvious. Truth be told, it would not surprise me in the slightest if the main reason she didn’t want to call the 2020 Election stolen was because she didn’t want to open the door of saying elections can be stolen. ( It’s especially notable that the controversy was around voting machines considering what happened in Ohio in 2004.)

Of course, McCarthy is just as on the chopping block as Cheney is. Recently, a controversy has arisen regarding Kevin McCarthy's relationship with Republican pollster Frank Luntz, who McCarthy has been roommates with for the past several years. Of course, Luntz has been a major player in Republican politics dating back to his work for Pat Buchanan’s 1992 Presidential Campaign, and he famously helped Newt Gingrich and Bob Dole take control of Congress in 1994, but now Tucker Carlson has made him controversial because Luntz — prepare yourself — supports immigration. As Carlson said on his show on 5/1/2021:

Frank Luntz’s view of immigration is very much like Google’s view of immigration. America needs a lot more immigration right away, and anyone who disagrees with that is a racist.

Mind you, Luntz doesn’t actually express his own views, instead, he tries to find more effective ways for Republicans to craft their pre-existing message. He’s the man who coined the term “death tax” to talk about the estate tax and “climate change” to talk about global warming — one of those was much more successful than the other. Although Carlson spends this entire segment ignoring that, leading to him saying things like this:

“I was a little surprised to find out that deep down, Republican voters agree with me and Google.” We were not surprised. We’re all the children of immigrants, he told us. We need these people.

Now, that may be entirely true, or maybe it’s not true. We can debate it. But Frank Luntz doesn’t want to debate it, probably why he didn’t come on tonight. He wants instead to pretend that his personal opinions are established fact and that the Republican Party had better listen to them and obey.

McCarthy is still trying to pretend like he has not allowed the radicals full control over his party. The same day he got rid of Liz Cheney for saying the 2020 Election wasn't stolen, McCarthy went in front of a live audience and said that nobody in the Republican Party thinks the 2020 Election was stolen. (Actually, one poll from April found that well over half of all Republicans think the 2020 Election was stolen — in large part because of people like Kevin McCarthy. Although this is the same man who said he had no idea what Q-Anon was, despite the fact it's something many Trump supporters believe, after voting for a resolution to condemn it.)

The same day Cheney was ousted, Paul Gosar took time from a Congressional hearing on the 1/6/2021 insurrection to call the rioters “peaceful patriots” who are being “harassed” by the FBI. (For those curious, Gosar responded to the attack originally by calling it a false flag by Antifa.) Gosar also asked, “who executed Ashli Babbitt?” in reference to the Trump supporter who was killed while trying to illegally occupy a federal building. Will Gosar be removed from his committee assignments, if not for this for his arguing the 2020 Presidential Election was stolen (which, according to McCarthy, no Republican believes), or his association with white nationalist Nick Fuentes?

Of course not, just as McCarthy won’t condemn Majorie Taylor Greene or Lauren Boebert, because McCarthy has allowed those two and their fellow radicals to have complete control over his party. McCarthy likely thinks he can lead Republicans without being eaten alive — he is wrong about that, and he will learn that the hard way.
