FINALLY: FBI Asks Congress To Make Domestic Terrorism Illegal
The President of the FBI Agents Association (or the FBIAA) Brain O’Hare recently issued a statement calling for Congress to make Domestic Terrorism Illegal.
Here’s his statement in full:
I know, finally. To think, this country has lived under the same government since 1787 — 232 years now — and Domestic Terrorism has been legal all this time.
The Part Where I’m Actually Serious
Terrorism is defined by Google as:
the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims
The first three words are the parts I wish you to focus in on. “The unlawful use,” means that for something to count as terrorism it must be illegal, by definition. What are they going to do? Make it extra super duper illegal?
But even then, it is illegal to use violence and intimidation in every case other than self-defense. This means it’s illegal to kill, assault, or harm someone in any way unless they are harming you as well. Harming someone for political gains is also illegal, regardless of what you classify them.
Is a judge going to go “well, you murdered a guy but domestic terrorism isn’t specifically illegal so you’re free”? Of course not.
Security Theater
This is part of a tactic called “Security Theater.” Basically, it’s the process of showing someone all these things to make them feel safe, but don’t actually make the person any more safe.
The most famous example is the post-9/11 programs. The TSA has never caught a single terrorist, The Taliban has more of Afghanistan today than they did in 2001, The Patriot Act has not stopped terrorists in any meaningful way, The Department of Homeland Security just spent its first five years using colors to say we’re in danger and now just puts immigrants in camps, and so on.
Did you know that a previous regulation could have stopped 9/11? Airplane pilots are suppose to have there doors locked at all times during the flight, they did not. It’s possible if they did at least one of the Twin Towers could have been saved.
After Parkland, many were calling for Gun Control. Under Federal Law, it is illegal to own a gun while under FBI investigation, and the police were called to Nicholas Cruz’s house a number of times.
After Sandy Hook, Gun Control Advocates were calling for people with mental disorders from owning a gun. While Adam Lanza was mentally ill, the mentally ill in general are no more likely to commit a mass shooting than the general population. People with illnesses like Depression and Anxiety are actually less likely to commit a shooting. People with mental illness are ten times more likely to be the victim of gun violence though.
On the other end, the NRA started calling for it being legal for teachers to own guns for the sake of protection of students. The only country in the first world that allows this is Israel, which does not have a right to bear arm. The only way you can get a gun in Israel is to be a member of the IDF.
This will not do anything. All these legislation are designed to do is give the government more power over you to make it look like they’re helping. While the FBI is begging for more power they’re waiting for the right time for the politician to vote for it or risk not being re-elected.
