Eric Swalwell And Anti-China Hysteria
Of all the men to be caught up in our current anti-China hysteria, I must admit Rep. Swalwell was not someone I had on my mind, if only because he’s so forgettable it’s very rare for him to be on my mind. But this California Democrat, most known for a failed run for President when he not only advocated for gun control, but threatened to nuke gun owners, has got back into the public spotlight due a recent scandal.
The story was broke by Axios yesterday, and what they found was not particularly impressive. Basically, a woman named Fang Fang (or Christine Fang), a member of “A suspected Chinese intelligence operative,” took part in fundraising efforts for Swalwell’s 2014 re-election campaign, and she also placed one intern in his staff. Swalwell was warned about Fang’s ties in early 2015 by the federal investigators, and he cut off ties with her immediately before Fang left the country a few months later.
Axois did not treat this as some kind of “exposés of Eric Swalwell,” and instead used it, as well as Fung’s relationship with other local politicians in California, to talk about how Chinese spies attempt to enter US politics, which is an interesting. However, the story was quickly removed of all context by Republican commentators to make it sound like this wasn’t just some person Swalwell had a fundraiser with who hasn’t been in the country for five-and-a-half-years. Such as what was done in the following Tweet by Charlie Kirk:
Wouldn’t you think it would be a bigger story that Eric Swalwell had an extensive relationship with a Chinese Communist spy for the past 6 years, all while he accused Trump of collusion with Russia?
Actually, he had a passing relationship with a Chinese spy six years ago, and said spy hasn’t been in the country for well over five the six years since.
Other stories have since cropped up saying Swalwell had sex with the spy, which Axois never claimed. They did claim Fang “engaged in sexual or romantic relationships with at least two mayors of Midwestern cities over a period of about three years,” and that “at least two separate sexual interactions with elected officials, including one of these Midwestern mayors, were caught on FBI electronic surveillance of Fang.” But again, Swalwell’s relationship with her seems to be rather passive and not much else.
Despite this being one of the most boring stories known to man, which makes sense considering it’s about Eric Swalwell, this story is being treated as big news in anti-China circles. This includes trying to get him off of the House Intelligence Committee, in spite of us not even knowing if any information was given.
It reminds me of a story from a few years ago, when Senator Dianne Feinstein — you know, the Chinese seem to only target the largest Democratic state in the country, funny that — was found to have a personal driver who reported to China’s Ministry Of State Security. Again, just asking what information a personal driver could have gotten shows this story to be absolutely nothing. Yet, in our current age of anti-China propaganda being shoved down our throats 24/7, this is treated as the biggest scandal possible — oh, and of course it just so happens to come out during the Mueller investigation, why wouldn’t it?
I can’t help but find it interesting that the very same people who are “against the deep state” and “against wars” are also listening to the what the deep state says in order to get us in a war with China. On 12/3/2020, NBC published an article by known CIA asset Ken Dilanian titled “China Has Done Human Testing To Create Biologically Enhanced Super Soldiers, Says Top U.S. Officials.” Of course they’re engaging in genetic modification, another thing the people in power hate, because why wouldn’t they be?
Of course, during this same week, Florida Governor (and possible 2024 Republican candidate) Ron DeSantis raided the house of a doctor who believed his ending of the lockdowns was a bad idea. This is just a week after he compared people who wanted schools to stay closed to “modern flat-earthers” (which also giving parents a fully remote option, because of course he would). When China did something similar to this during the start of the pandemic, it was reason to “break the medical supply chain” (which meant limit the amount of medicine in the United States) but the story of DeSantis has barley broken the ears of the mainstream media.
Our current situation in the United States is one of propaganda, and the people who once warned of Iraq are now warning of China. Always make sure to keep that in mind.
