Don’t Want To Live In The Middle Ages? Maybe You Just Hate Catholics.

Just under nine months ago, I wrote an article criticizing the apologists of the Middle Ages. One of the people I talked about was a man named Albert Bikaj, who came back under my radar for this tweet posted on 9/25/2021:

The Dark Age myth, if studied carefully, is nothing more but anti-Catholicism in disguise.

Of course, as mentioned above, Bikaj is one of the chief apologist for the Medieval period of human history. The pinned-tweet on his twitter account is a thread published on 1/27/2021, which begins by saying the following:

I’m a graduate in Medieval Studies, and when I try to explain some myths about it, people look at me as if I was insane. The Enlightenment propaganda is so strong, that telling the truth about Medieval era sounds like a crazy right-wing conspiracy theory.

Later in the thread, Bikaj specifically notes “the [anti-Christian] sentiment which [Enlightenment] thinkers had promoted seems to be popular ever since.” One wonders which Enlightenment figures he’s talking about. Does he mean John Locke, who based his political views off his Christian faith? Or maybe he’s talking about the devout Anglican Francis Bacon. What about Blaise Pascal, the who created the argument that is now known as “Pascal’s Wager.”
