Can We Stop With These Pointless Midterm Predictions?

Last month, CBS News hired former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney to be a political commentator for the network. Mind you, although Mulvaney is most known for his role as Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff, he really bounced around the Trump administration and was given a number of different jobs. Before Trump made him Chief of Staff, he was head of the Consumer Finical Protection Bureau (which he was against the creation of), for example.

Mind you, I’m not saying that just because Mulvaney worked for Donald Trump he should be shunned by the media, that would be ridiculous. However, I will say that before Mulvaney worked for Trump, he was in Congress and he was an all around right-wing nutjob. He was one of the founding members of the Tea Party’s Freedom Caucus and even met with the John Birch Society in 2016.

When CBS was asked to justify hiring such an insane person as a commentator, they explained that they believe Republicans are going to win the midterms, so it makes sense that they’d hire a Republican in case of that. Mind you, CBS News didn’t hire any former Obama staffers in 2018, nor does this explain why they had to hire Mulvaney specifically, but that is the excuse CBS gave.
