Boycott The Olympics: What Would We Gain?

“U.S. Is ‘Considering’ Diplomatic Boycott of Beijing Olympics, Biden Says,” reports The New York Times on 11/18/2021. Secretary of State Tony Blinken has also talked about the possibility of a boycott of the 2022 winter Olypmics, saying:

We are talking to — to allies, to partners, to countries around the world about how they’re thinking about the games, how they’re thinking about participation. It’s an active conversation. We’re coming — we’re coming up on the games, but let me leave it at that for today.

Ever since it was announced that Beijing, China would be the location where the winter Olympics are hosted, their have been many talking about the United States boycotting it. An 11/20/2021 article in The New York Post lays out many of the arguments people make in favor of this boycott, all coming down to the fact that China is an authoritarian country that has engaged in massive human rights violations.

It should also be noted that some of their claims are nothing more than allegations that have not been proven at time of writing, such as this point:
