Biden Condemns Too Much Violence
After the riots in Wisconsin took place last week, many commentators, especially on the right, asked Biden to condemn the violence done by the radical left.
Well, those commentators got their wish over the weekend. However, the condemnation included more than the right wanted, as Joe Biden stated the following over the weekend:
The deadly violence we saw overnight in Portland is unacceptable. Shooting in the streets of a great American city is unacceptable. I condemn this violence unequivocally. I condemn violence of every kind by any one, whether on the left or the right. And I challenge Donald Trump to do the same.
This condemnation, while basic, gets to the point. The violence is unacceptable, regardless of who is doing it, and is condemned by Joe Biden. He then compares this to Donald Trump, who only seems to be condemning violence when it comes from the other side of the fence.
The statement was everything the right pretended it wanted — a simple, non-partisan condemnation of violent action. However, that didn’t stop many of them from taking issue with that statement, saying it did not go far enough.
For the sake of argument, why don’t we compare what Biden said after these Black Lives Matter riots to what Trump said after United The Right:
Excuse me, excuse me. They didn’t put themselves — and you had some very bad people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. You had people in that group. Excuse me, excuse me. I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of, to them, a very, very important statue and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee to another name.
Of course, three years after United The Right and nobody has been able to point to a single example of these “very fine people” the President mentioned. Plus, could you imagine how the right would react if Biden said there were “very fine people” at these Black Lives Matter riots? It would be Christmas for them, especially considering they’ve been trying to make Joe Biden look like the candidate of Antifa and Black Lives Matter — while also, confusingly, calling Biden the real racist.
Although, that is exactly what they believe. Don’t believe me? Well just look at how they’re treating Kyle Rittenhouse. After Rittenhouse killed two people because someone threw a plastic bag at him, the entire right has been trying to find as many ways as possible to make his actions justified.
Now Rittenhouse was not the only violent person in the Wisconsin riot, however, he is the only person who has any defenders. While some on the fringe left are defending the actions of the looters, most realize the looting was caused by people who just wanted to steal things. Meanwhile, Rittenhouse doing nothing wrong is a mainstream position on the right that we are honestly suppose to consider.
This is the key issue people actually have with what Biden said, not that he condemned too little, but that he condemned too much. Some might remember this tweet from President Trump from 5/29/2020, which Twitter actually flagged for violence:
These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!
That Tweet was advocating for violence, as was what Kyle Rittenhouse did. However, that is not the kind of violence Trump supporters wanted to see get condemned, they just wanted to see Antifa and Black Lives Matter get condemned. The fact that Biden refused to play their game is why they are angry, and that just makes it all the worse.
