Are Young People Having Enough Sex (And Other Questions On The Mind Of The Media)

“What’s Driving Gen Z’s Aversion to Sex?” asked Debra Soh in an article published by Newsweek on 10/12/2021. Debra Soh is also the author of the book The End of Gender: Debunking the Myths about Sex and Identity in Our Society, which argues against many aspects of modern gender theory. (This would also make the article yet another example of a transphobe getting really mad that people aren’t having enough sex, which is a very weird sub-genre I’ve encountered.)

The article talks about the fact that less members of Generation Z are sexually active than members Generation X or Generation Y were by this point in their lives. I should note, throughout this entire article Soh frames this as a “repudiation of sex positivity,” but that’s not actually what “sex positivity” means. “Sex positivity” means support a culture with liberal sexual norms and beveling sexuality is a normal part of humanity that should not be discouraged by society — how much the individual sex positive person has sex is totally irrelevant.

The article blames everything it can on this, including women being educated, the MeToo movement, and the internet. However, it’s important to note that despite mentioning the internet and the rise of online relationships along with sexting, she never once mentions dating websites…
