Are Transgender People Homophobic? (No)

I’m sure a large chunk of my audience is wondering why I — a cis-gender man — has spent so much time debunking transphobia. After all, I’m not personally affected by transphobia, so why should I bother spending so much time trying to fight it?

I have four main reasons as to why I keep writing on this issue:

  1. It doesn’t matter how much this bigotry “affects me.” Even ignoring the fact that it’s pathetically obvious the social conservatives who currently oppose trans-rights are going to roll back gay-rights the first chance they get, even one person suffering an injustice is too many.
  2. Transphobia does affect me. Three of my best friends are male-to-female transgender individuals who are constantly in danger of losing their rights because of the people I go after.
  3. Transphobia is based on such laughably wrong information that debunking these people is incredibly easy, meaning it makes for very easy content.
  4. As a gay man, many transphobes, specifically transphobic gay men, seem to think they have the right to speak on my behalf — they do not. They would not even have this right if they were correct, but the fact that they are so obviously incorrect means I have to spend all the more time distancing myself from them.
