Are These The “Hard Truths” I Was Promised?
Over the past several days, the Biden Administration has had a direct message to Americans that it has been willing to express time and time again — get vaccinated or keep wearing a mask. As President Biden put it simply and directly on Twitter on 5/13/2021:
After a year of hard work and so much sacrifice, the rule is now simple: get vaccinated or wear a mask until you do.
Biden also tweeted that same day:
The CDC announced that they are no longer recommending that fully vaccinated people need to wear masks.
And in case you didn’t understand it the first two times, Biden also tweeted:
Today is a great day for America in our long battle with COVID-19. Just a few hours ago, the CDC announced they are no longer recommending that fully vaccinated people need to wear masks.
Personally, I thought this announcement was a long time coming, however, Joe Biden was waiting for everyone who trusted the vaccine to get it in, and now he’s using not having to wear a mask as an extra incentive. Of course, it was always known that someone who got vaccinated did not have to wear a mask to avoid catching COVID-19 (although they could still carry and spread it) — hence why Biden has been constantly attacked by the media for wearing a mask in public despite being vaccinated (which is an important scandal, apparently) — however, Biden still needed to wait until everyone who was worried about catching the illness got the vaccine in order to protect the population from people who are vaccinated while also carrying the virus.
As for why Biden was so reluctant to officially declared the pandemic over, I think it was because he has a very good memory of how willing Donald Trump to do the same. Between Larry Hogan saying COVID-19 was contained “pretty close to airtight,” “fifteen days to slow the spread,” Trump’s promise it would be over by Easter, and so much more — it felt as if Trump looked at George W. Bush’s infamous 5/1/2003 speech over a banner that read “Mission Accomplished” and dedicated the entirety of 2020 to making America relive that moment as many times as possible. Meanwhile, Biden waited for the mission to actually be accomplished before he declared such, saving the American people a lot of time and a lot of heartaches.
Previously, Joe Biden said that he planned to re-open, at the very latest, on 7/4/2021. On television, Dr. Fauci has warned of everything from it taking another year to masks becoming seasonal in the not too distant future. While I do not believe that Fauci did not think this was possible, I do believe he was told by Biden to always talk about the worst-case seniors, if only to prepare the American people in case that actually turns out to be what happens. Joe Biden wanted an America that was safe rather than sorry, and while we can disagree if that’s a worthwhile goal, it’s impossible to deny he reached his goal.
No other President in United States has ever had to enter office dealing with what Joe Biden had. Presidents have entered office during times of recession, Presidents have entered office following a failed administration, but no President has entered office during a nationwide pandemic the likes of which the United States has never seen. And Biden knew that, hence why he’s so willing to listen to experts on issues of public health — just as John F. Kennedy knew he didn’t know everything, Joe Biden is very aware he doesn’t know everything. (Compare this to Donald Trump, who would regularly brag that “nobody knows more than me” about every issue under the sun — even when Donald had no idea what he was talking about.)
When Joe Biden learns the truth, he tells us it in a direct, understandable manner. He does not ramble for minutes on end contradicting everything he says — as Donald Trump infamously did — all he does is, in as few words as possible, tell the American people the truth. The truth is that you need to get vaccinated if you do not want to wear a mask, and if you don’t everyone else to wear a mask. This truth is a hard truth for some to take — especially those on the right who thought COVID-19 was a “Democrat hoax” in the first place — but it’s a truth and we must accept it.
Joe Biden is telling the American people harsh truths, and that’s a good thing.
