Anti-Anti-Putin Is The New Pro-Putin

On 3/30/2022, Matt Taibbi wrote an article for Substack titled “‘Regime Change’ Doesn’t Work, You Morons,” criticizing the notion of regime change in Russia. Of course, nobody is proposing regime change in Russia — President Biden refuses to get United States troops involved with the conflict of Russia, so jumping from that to regime change would be quite the odd move. As such, Taibbi has to begin this article with justifications as to why the article is even needed.
Of course, this article was primarily based on Biden saying “[Putin] cannot remain in power,” during a speech in Poland. After mentioning that, Taibbi goes on to discuss a number of quotes from Joe Biden that he believes prove that Joe Biden wants regime change in Russia. Among them are Joe Biden saying that Putin “shouldn’t be in power,” and Biden saying “what will stop him,” is “the pain” of sanctions that Biden plans to “sustain . . . not just [for the] next month, the following months, but for the remainder of this entire year.”
Again, even reading the quotes that Taibbi provides in the context he provides, none of them can be seen as Joe Biden advocating for regime change. Hence why, after he’s basically realized he has nothing, he moves on to talking about other things. For example, he talks about United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson saying that he wants “to bring down the Putin regime.” Taibbi also quotes British Armed Forces Minister James Heappey as saying the following:
This quote comes from a 2/16/2022 article in The Telegraph titled “Ukrainians are fighting for their freedom, and Britain is doing everything to help them.” Actually reading the article shows Heappey made no mention of regime change, and instead specifically said that the United Kingdom should continue supporting both the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia who stand up to Putin:
