On 3/3/2022, Yoram Hazony tweeted the following:

Neo-Marxist cancel culture has now merged seamlessly with liberal-internationalist utopianism and neocon regime-change fever. What are we gonna call it?

Of course, this is nothing more than word salad — which is exactly what most expect from a pseudo-Intellectual like Hazony. This tweet doesn’t actually mean anything, and it’s not supposed, it’s just supposed to sound scary to his right-wing nationalist audience without actually giving them any information about the situation.

Calling “cancel culture,” (which is usually just induvial people not wanting to associate with those they find problematic) “neo-Marxist,” is easily my favorite part of the tweet. Never mind the fact that Marx — who was a journalist, remember — was an open supporter of both the freedom of speech and the freedom of press we’re told “cancel culture,” is stopping (he was actually forced to leave Germany at one point because the government was censoring his work). “Cancel culture,” is bad, and Marxism is bad, so therefore “cancel culture” must be Marxist by definition.

Of course, Hazony did clarify that these people were “neo-Marxists,” as opposed to Marxists of the old school. For comparison, the term “neo-Conservative,” came about in…
