An Honest Look At “Sex Based Rights”

In a 12/21/2021 article for Lesbian and Gay News, Jo Bartosch declared the following:

Whether referred to as “terfs”, “gender critical people” or simply free-thinkers, 2021 was the year the fight to regain sex-based rights took form. 2022 promises more; the upcoming publication of the Cass Review into the Tavistock, the challenge to the LGB Alliance’s charitable status and Allison’s Bailey’s case against Stonewall. Now that the stifling era of “no debate” has come to an end, we once more have the freedom to look to the future.

The phrase “sex based rights” has become more and more common in the past couple of years, especially with the recent rise of the TERF movement on certain corners of the internet. The phrase itself was not coined until 2016, and, if Jo Bartosch is to be believed, the fight for them has only become mainstream this year in the United Kingdom.

And yes, despite the best efforts of people like Abigail Shrier and Debra Soh, transphobic feminism has barley made a dent in the conversation in the United States. Even the aforementioned Shrier has noted in the past that “gender critical” ideology is really only popular in the United Kingdom and nowhere else. As has Kara Dansky, the author of The Abolition of Sex and another leading voice in the TERF movement. When the BBC published that terrible transphobic article…
