A Fringe Right-Wing Mob Keeps Trying To Rule Us — And We Keep Letting It

On 8/20/2021, Ron Filipkowski posted a video on Twitter of a school board meeting in Sarasota, Florida being forced to adjourn after a school board member mentioned the idea of mask mandates in schools is popular among the people, causing massive backlash from the audience — some of whom threatened to get violent. The video was a clear example of mob rule, a radical minority forcing its will onto the majority not through legitimate political processes, but instead through loud shouting and the threat of violence. All of this in spite of the fact — or possibly because of the fact — that the majority of Americans support both mask and vaccine mandates in American schools. This includes fifty-two percent of parents.

On 8/22/2021, the Associated Press printed an article on how the anti-mask and anti-vaccine right-wing has been engaging in this kind of violence all over the country. To quote from that article:

Across the country, anti-vaccine and anti-mask demonstrations are taking scary and violent turns, and educators, medical professionals and public figures have been stunned at the level at which they have been vilified for even stating their opinion. And they have been terrified over how far protesters will go in confronting leaders outside their homes and in their workplaces.
